The DMC is as an award winning medical center and is the official healthcare services provider for the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Pistons, the Detroit Shock and the Detroit Grand Prix.
DMC is deep in history. Harper Hospital founded in 1863 received its first patients, Civil War soldiers, in 1864 and just over fifty years ago the first mechanical heart was developed at Harper Hospital.
The DMC is a part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, a major nationwide health care provider. The DMC is situated on a massive central campus that includes eight general and specialty hospitals, four medical office buildings, over 10,000 parking spaces and 160 parking employees spread across seven valet operations, numerous surface parking lots, and five parking garages.
In July 2013, after a year of providing parking consulting services to the DMC, Premier Parking was hired to replace a poor performing company. Although the previous parking operator was a nationally recognized company, they had failed to maintain a consistent service level across the vast parking operation at the DMC. Premier Parking inherited an operation that had remained static for many years and was understaffed, operating with outdated technology, lacking in fundamental accounting and auditing controls and whose workforce was unionized.
Despite these many challenges, Premier Parking quickly got to work implementing programs for the parking operation designed to enhance service levels, provide more accurate accountability of parking revenues and develop more efficient staffing plans. These changes have resulted in better service coverage and substantial payroll savings.
In addition to thousands of staff and visitor parking spaces, on a typical day Premier Parking will valet park over 1,265 customer vehicles while maintaining minimal auto damage and achieving 5 minutes or less retrieval times.
The DMC operation is Premier Parking’s single largest parking operation and is under the able leadership of Jim Horski, General Manager, and Brian Albertsen, Senior Operations Manager. Eric Teter, Vice President, states “the DMC operation is a feather in our cap and will allow Premier Parking the opportunity to continue to demonstrate our ability to deliver top notch service to the Healthcare Community.”
The opening of the DMC in July 2013 follows Premier Parking’s successful opening of its Seattle Office on May 1, 2013 when operations commenced at three garages serving four Medical Office Building’s on the campus of the Swedish Medical Center.
