The City of Austin has partnered with Premier Parking to expand the Affordable Parking Program by 2,000 spaces at eight garages downtown. The program goal is to improve affordability for employees who work evenings and weekends, including those in the service and entertainment industries.
The new garages are concentrated in the downtown core between Fourth, Eighth, Trinity and Guadalupe streets, along with one in the Seaholm District. Featuring extended hours, these garages are available all day Saturdays and Sundays and, depending on the location, as early as 3 p.m. on weekdays.
“With this surge in reach and availability, downtown employees now have more access than ever to the Affordable Parking Program,” said Jason Redfern, Austin Transportation Parking Operations Manager. “We’re excited to work with Premier Parking to open the program up to more people who need it, including those who are starting their shifts just as the traditional work day is winding down.”
This expansion marks the first time private facilities have been available through the Affordable Parking Program. “We at Premier Parking are incredibly honored to be the first private parking operator to be partnering with the City of Austin on the Affordable Parking Program,” said Christina Murray, General Manager at Premier Parking. “We’re eager to share in the City’s efforts to deliver the program to our fellow members of the downtown community.”
The City of Austin also recently partnered with the Downtown Austin Alliance, which is leveraging its transportation management association Movability to work with local businesses and direct downtown employees to the Affordable Parking Program. This effort is part of the Downtown Austin Alliance’s Downtown Parking Strategy.
